Uintah Recreation District Hires Cathey - Dan Rodgerson

Neil Cathey has been named

extensively in the parks industry

in his home state and in Florida for

the past 10 years. He is a graduate

of the University of Tennessee

and Penn State University and

a member of the Golf Course

Superintendents Association

of America

Neil says he and his family

have always had a dream of living

out west and that he has fulfilled

that dream with this job. He

says he came out to Vernal and

fell in love with the community,

scenery, and the small town

atmosphere.

“We are excited to have

someone with the education

and experience that Neil has

brought to the district,” says Dan

Rodgerson, executive director
.

“Now that the Community

Center is complete, we expect

Neil to assist us with making the

as the center.”

New Community Center Staffing - Dan Rodgerson

The district plans to advertise

for these positions in coordination

with the estimated construction

completion deadline. In

addition, the district will hire

approximately 75 to 100 additional

staff for positions such

as lifeguards, swim instructors,

cashiers, fitness instructors,

janitors, child care attendants

and climbing wall attendants.

“We anticipate the same

challenge as everyone else in

the community in regards to

fi nding quality staff, but feel the

center will be a fun environment

to work. A particular challenge

will be finding lifeguards, since

the new aquatics area is more

than twice the size of our current

pool,” said Dan Rodgerson.

Uintah Recreation center work continues Despite Weather - Dan Rodgerson

The construction of the new Uintah Community Center at 500 South Vernal Ave. is moving
forward. Frigid temperatures along with the excessive snowfall have slowed the process.

“We are pushing as hard as we can but the weather has not cooperated,” said Doug Miller, the project superintendent from Layton Construction.

“Many of the milestones have been met including the completion of the parking lots, two pools
and the basketball gym – and the stonework on the front of the building is taking shape,” said Dan Rodgerson, executive director of the Uintah Recreation Special Service District. “With all
the designs approved and ready to go, the next large install will be the climbing wall and to enclose the building.”

Architectural Design of Community Center - Dan Rodgerson

The architectural design of the building is reminiscent of the red cliffs that overlook Red
Fleet Reservoir said Dan Rodgerson Execitive Director. The district according to
Rodgerson is happy with the architects and pleased with the progress. The architects,
Edwards & Daniels Architects, have selected stone for construction and decoration
that has been collected from, local quarries with design detail that reflect the Basin landscape.
Once completed, the Recreation Center will provide year-round recreational opportunities for
Vernal.
