New Community Center Staffing - Dan Rodgerson

The district plans to advertise

for these positions in coordination

with the estimated construction

completion deadline. In

addition, the district will hire

approximately 75 to 100 additional

staff for positions such

as lifeguards, swim instructors,

cashiers, fitness instructors,

janitors, child care attendants

and climbing wall attendants.

“We anticipate the same

challenge as everyone else in

the community in regards to

fi nding quality staff, but feel the

center will be a fun environment

the new aquatics area is more

than twice the size of our current

Uintah Recreation center work continues Despite Weather - Dan Rodgerson

The construction of the new Uintah Community Center at 500 South Vernal Ave. is moving
forward. Frigid temperatures along with the excessive snowfall have slowed the process.

“We are pushing as hard as we can but the weather has not cooperated,” said Doug Miller, the project superintendent from Layton Construction.

“Many of the milestones have been met including the completion of the parking lots, two pools
and the basketball gym – and the stonework on the front of the building is taking shape,” said Dan Rodgerson, executive director of the Uintah Recreation Special Service District. “With all
the designs approved and ready to go, the next large install will be the climbing wall and to enclose the building.”

Fleet Reservoir said Dan Rodgerson Execitive Director. The district according to

that has been collected from, local quarries with design detail that reflect the Basin landscape.

Contractor Named in Uintah Recreation Project - Dan Rodgerson

"Layton Construction from the Wasatch Front is handling construction," Rodgerson
says. "They are experienced in building recreational facilities. They've built maybe three or so
others." Once finished, Vernal's Recreation Center will boast an indoor lap pool, a leisure pool
with slides and water toys, and a'25-foot climbing wall. "The climbing wall will be a central
architectural feature in the lobby of the Rec Center," says Dan Rodgerson. There will also be
a double gym that divides into four separate floors for multiple games at once, a running track,
various party rooms, aerobic and dance floors, exercise rooms, a childcare facility and a public
conference room. Dan Rodgerson noted that the "second floor area of the running track is called a 'cardio-balcony,' because of the equipment and track up there. The track runs around the perimeter of the building." Doug Miller, project superintendent, adds, "The track circuit is about 0.12 mile. I think you have to walk around it twelve times to cover a mile."

Eventually, the entirety of the 80 acre recreational parcel will be developed with softball diamonds, soccer fields and other outdoor sports areas. For now, the 5-acre footprint of the Recreation Center building is the focus of construction efforts.

Community Center Ammenities - Dan Rodgerson

Dan Rodgerson Said that the two gyms in the Center will be oversized to allow up
to 4 Jr. Basketball games. The indoor track will be located upstairs and will be partially open to allow views of the gyms, climbing features, and pool. The track will have the option of exiting via the stairs or a slide feature. If funds allow, there may be fitness equipment as well. Some of these features have been contested in the board meetings because local business owners, such as the Athletic Club, are concerned how they will affect their clientele.

Community Center Funding - Dan Rodgerson

The funding is in part the savings of the Parks and Recreation Department, and part the $7 million, 30-year interest free grant from the Community Impact Board. This is not free money Rodgerson emphasized. The grant will be paid partially in the pledging of mineral lease funds for 15 years. Rodgerson explained that the escalation in these mineral lease funds has brought a lot of attention to probably the best funded Park and Recreation Department in the nation. He says he is aware that these funds will be diversified in the future. "We support every step of the way because we feel funds may be threatened if not diversified," Rodgerson said. "However we are very anxious to find out more details ." The details for the amenities of the Recreation Center
are still being finalized, including details of the rock climbing wall and a dinosaur climbing
feature.
